D SLRs with HD video

I'm still not sure how well the new AF in the Canon EOS 7D works yet...-i'm picking up some issues out there in the threads. Are you getting good auto focus results with your brand new baby? If you're going down the EOS 7D or the Nikon D 300s road for your multi-media needs, which external stereo mic(s) do you think would make a great choice for either of these cameras. Any thoughts?

Here's an example of the 7d with a Rode Shotgun. Thank Phil Bloom:

He's pimped up a 7D and road testing it right now and the blog is picking this thread...Meanwhile check out "singular software" for its ability to sync audio from an external recorder with that of the 7D for example, without time code…-thanks Elliot and Phil. That seems to be the best solution for people like me who have good field recording device. Still will stereo Rode mic attached to the 7D do the job?

  2. ...hmm, I've just heard that the rode mic used in the 7D shoot was a little unimpressive due to low levels. Not looking like a recommended solution so make sure it meets your needs before you jump in.

  3. A verdict is in....-Phil Bloom likes the performance of the Rode VideoMic Directional Shotgun Mic w/Mount on his 7D. (ONly issue is it can get in the way of still shooting.) You can hear it perform on this movie:

  4. Roll with a nice Sanken shotgun... but attach it to your other camera, and sync it later when you get to post. We'll be getting a DSLR soon (Nikon) with HD video, but we'll be using it for picture only.

  5. Legend. Will check out the Sanken. Meanwhile I'll cover off certain sound needs with my Microtrack 2 recorder operating independently, and sync that in post.
